About Reel Thing Events

Founded by John Carver in 2016, Reel Thing Events has become one of the UK’s most celebrated organisers of Scottish reeling balls. What began as a gathering of 350 reelers at Hammersmith Town Hall has grown into large-scale events that attract hundreds of dancers to iconic venues such as Battersea Arts Centre and Porchester Hall.

Reel Thing Balls are renowned for their vibrant atmosphere, inclusive spirit, and world-class live music. Guests have danced to legendary bands including the Red Hot Chilli Pipers, Supergrouse, and the Frank Reid Band. From the lively spins of the Dashing White Sergeant to the grandeur of the Eightsome Reel, these events capture the excitement and joy of Scottish reeling while welcoming dancers of all ages and levels of experience.

Alongside the flagship balls, John also runs the popular Young Gatherings, designed specifically for students in Years 11 to 13. These evenings give younger dancers the chance to discover the fun and energy of reeling in a relaxed and welcoming environment.

Together with a small but passionate committee, John continues to bring unforgettable reeling experiences to guests across the country, helping to build a thriving and inclusive reeling community.
